Chloroplast

Cross-section of chloroplast with labels. Membranes, Stromal Lamellae, Thylakoid, Stroma, Sugars.
Chloroplast Structure
I am chloroplast! I am a big contributor in cells, but I am only found in the plant cell structure. We work to convert the sun's energy into sugars which are healthy and help the cell function. Without us, photosynthesis would not be possible. Therefore, chloroplasts are the main source of survival for all plant life.

  1. If only plant cells have chloroplasts, how can the be the most important? Lysosomes are found not only in animal cells, but also in some plant cells. Without us, viruses would destroy the chloroplasts, or mutated cells would corrupt the organism. Vote Lysosome, the defender of the cell.

    1. Oh little lysosomes, the cell membrane can do your job. We protect the cell from harmful substances as well as let the cell get the substances they need to survive. Lysosomes are pointless to have in either plant or animal cells since both contain a plasma membrane.

    3. First of all, to the chloroplast, cells don't breath, they undergo cellular respiration, which can happen without you in animal cells.

Secondly, to the cell membrane, are the lysosomes really pointless? When you fail, which happens quite often, we take over and destroy the carelessly let in viruses. Also, when a virus takes over, the cell membrane actually merges with the virus' membrane, and somewhat protects it. Do we want a traitor to run the cell? Or do you want an organelle who fights against the viruses and wins? Vote lysosome, we will stay on your side.

  2. You might create sugars and materials but without the golgi you couldn't use them. The golgi processes all those materials created so you're useless without the golgi. No wonder you were only good enough for the plant cell.

    1. oxygen is the source of life, we make that oxygen. therefore without us, the golgi, along with every other organelle, wouldn't be needed because everything is dead :P

  3. To add, the chloroplasts create materials that need to be separated to a usable form. That is why without the Golgi the chloroplasts would be useless and they would not be able to complete the cell functions. The Golgi needs to separate the materials made in the chloroplast so they can be used.

  5. You say because you create sugar for the cell, that you are responsible for it's survival? NEWS FLASH!!! Without the mitochondria (the reason why you are still functioning) chloroplast wouldn't have the energy to do anything, making it useless.
    Vote mitochondria!
